Safcon, a RigNet Subsidiary, Awarded Project to Replace Fire and Gas System

RigNet, Inc., announced today that Safcon, a subsidiary of RigNet, has recently been awarded a $1.1M project to provide engineering services, design, testing and equipment to replace an existing fire and gas system at a global oil and gas producers’ permanent offshore drilling and production tension-leg oil platform (TLP) operating in Mississippi Canyon in the Gulf of Mexico.

RigNet originally acquired Safcon, a safety and security service provider, in early 2018 to bring value across its systems integration and managed communications services businesses and strengthen its relationships with oil and gas exploration and production companies.

The facility originally installed and starting production in 1996 has gone through extensive upgrades and improvements since its original launch.  The new fire and gas system will use redundant addressable technology to reduce false alarms and make the ability to protect human life more efficient.  And using industry leading technology allows the system to identify hazardous events quicker so personnel will be protected at the customer’s facility minimizing any down production time.

A dedicated project team as well as Rignet’s large scale Factory Acceptance Testing and Factory Hardware Testing facility based in Lafayette, LA are supporting the project work. The current project is expected to be completed by December 2020.  The services provided are part of Safcon’s extensive portfolio of diverse safety, fire & gas, security, and maintenance services.

“Through Safcon, we are able to bring the latest safety technologies and services to the customer, providing critical operational support for this location,” said Ed Traupman, SVP and General Manager, Products and Services. “With our extended portfolio of safety solutions, RigNet is committed to offer the broadest set of technology services support the needs across the energy value chain.”
