Officials said Friday that Las Vegas police are investigating a possible terrorist attack in Boulder.
Details of the investigation are limited, but Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Chief Kevin McMashire said in his State of the Union address that the incident “appears to be a credible counterterrorism threat.”
Officials said on Thursday, a car attempted to crash into another vehicle near a substation on Interstate 11.
ABC 13 Las Vegas first reported the incident, stating that a car crashed into a facility.
FOX5 reports that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to the crash outside Boulder City, about 30 minutes from Las Vegas. They reported that the only passenger in the vehicle died in the accident.
The news station said the FBI is investigating the possible terrorist threat because the driver crossed the state line before the accident.
The news of a possible terrorist attack came as McMahon discussed previous homeland security and counterterrorism incidents in the city, including the attack on Trump Tower and the discovery of a biological laboratory in a Las Vegas residence.
“Our counterterrorism team went out last night and is still dealing with the incident that happened in our valley, which I will obviously talk about later,” he told the crowd. “But it seems to be a credible counterterrorism threat again.”
McMahir did not provide details about the incident, but suggested the suspected attacker was driving from New York to southern Nevada.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said that more details would be provided at a further meeting at 1 p.m.
